Lebanon, Pennsylvania Description
Lebanon, Pennsylvania is a small city located in the heart of the Susquehanna Valley. It is situated in Lebanon County and is part of the Harrisburg-Carlisle Metropolitan Statistical Area. The city has a population of just over 25,000 people and covers an area of 8.2 square miles.
The city was founded in 1740 by George Steitz and was originally known as Steitztown. It was later renamed Lebanon after the Biblical town of the same name. The city has a rich history and was once home to many prominent figures such as Daniel Boone, who lived here for a time.
Today, Lebanon is known for its vibrant downtown area which features many shops, restaurants, and other attractions. There are also several parks located throughout the city including Coleman Memorial Park which features a large lake and walking trails. The city also hosts several annual events such as the Lebanon County Fair and the Lebanon Valley Expo Center which hosts concerts, shows, and other events throughout the year.
The economy of Lebanon is largely based on manufacturing with several major employers located in or near the city including Hershey Foods Corporation, Weaber Lumber Company, and Tyson Foods Incorporated. The city also has a strong healthcare sector with two hospitals located within its borders: Good Samaritan Hospital and WellSpan Good Samaritan Hospital.
Lebanon is served by two school districts: Cornwall-Lebanon School District and Lebanon School District. The former serves students from kindergarten through 12th grade while the latter serves students from pre-kindergarten through 12th grade. Both districts offer excellent educational opportunities for their students with high graduation rates and strong test scores across all grade levels.
