Canonsburg is a borough located in Washington County, Pennsylvania, United States. It is part of the Pittsburgh metropolitan area and is situated approximately 20 miles southwest of Pittsburgh. The population was 8,992 at the 2010 census.
Canonsburg is home to many businesses and organizations, including the headquarters of CONSOL Energy, a major coal mining company. The town also has a vibrant downtown area with many shops and restaurants. Canonsburg is also home to several parks and recreational areas, including Southpointe Golf Club, which features an 18-hole championship golf course.
The town was founded in 1788 by John Canon, who purchased 500 acres of land from George Washington’s family. The town was named after him and incorporated in 1802. Canonsburg has a rich history that includes being the birthplace of two U.S. presidents: James Buchanan and William McKinley.
