Allentown is a city located in the Lehigh Valley region of Pennsylvania, United States. It is the third-largest city in the state and the county seat of Lehigh County. Allentown is located approximately 50 miles north of Philadelphia and 70 miles west of New York City. The city has a population of around 120,000 people and covers an area of about 11 square miles.

The city was founded in 1762 by William Allen, a wealthy shipping merchant from Philadelphia. It quickly grew to become an important industrial center due to its location along the Lehigh River and its access to coal deposits in the surrounding hills. During the 19th century, Allentown became known for its iron works, steel mills, and textile factories. Today, it is home to several large companies such as Air Products & Chemicals, PPL Corporation, and Mack Trucks.

Allentown has a rich cultural heritage with many historic sites including Liberty Bell Museum, America on Wheels Museum, and Allentown Art Museum. The city also boasts numerous parks such as Cedar Beach Park, Trexler Nature Preserve, and Little Lehigh Parkway. There are also several shopping centers including West End Shopping Center and Hamilton Crossings Shopping Center.

Allentown is served by two major airports: Lehigh Valley International Airport (ABE) and Philadelphia International Airport (PHL). The city also has an extensive public transportation system with buses operated by LANTA (Lehigh & Northampton Transportation Authority). In addition to this, there are several Amtrak stations located throughout the city providing service to major cities such as New York City and Washington D.C.
