Gresham, Oregon Description
Gresham, Oregon is a city located in the Portland metropolitan area of the U.S. state of Oregon. It is located east of Portland and is the fourth-largest city in the state with a population of 105,594 as of 2019. Gresham is known for its diverse neighborhoods, excellent schools, and vibrant downtown area.
The city was founded in 1884 by pioneers who named it after Walter Quinton Gresham, an American Civil War general and United States Postmaster General. The city has grown steadily since then and now boasts a variety of attractions including parks, trails, golf courses, shopping centers, and more.
Gresham's downtown area is home to many restaurants, shops, galleries, and other businesses that make it a great place to explore. The historic downtown district features buildings from the late 19th century as well as modern structures that have been built in recent years. The city also has several parks including Main City Park which features a playground and picnic areas as well as walking paths along the riverfront.
Gresham also offers plenty of outdoor activities such as fishing at Huddleston Pond or hiking at Powell Butte Nature Park. There are also several golf courses in the area including Persimmon Country Club which offers an 18-hole championship course with stunning views of Mt Hood and Mt St Helens.
Gresham is also home to several annual events such as the Gresham Arts Festival which showcases local artists and musicians each summer. The city also hosts the Gresham Farmers Market every Saturday from May through October where visitors can purchase fresh produce from local farmers.
