Muskogee, Oklahoma Description
Muskogee, Oklahoma is a city located in the southeastern part of the state, about 50 miles southeast of Tulsa. It is the county seat of Muskogee County and has a population of around 40,000 people. The city was founded in 1872 and was named after the Muscogee (Creek) Nation who had been living in the area for centuries.
The city is situated on the Arkansas River and is known for its rich history and culture. It is home to several museums, including the Five Civilized Tribes Museum which showcases artifacts from the five Native American tribes that were relocated to Oklahoma during the Trail of Tears. The city also has a number of historic sites, such as Fort Gibson National Cemetery and Honor Heights Park.
