Midwest City, Oklahoma is a city located in the eastern part of Oklahoma County, just east of Oklahoma City. It is part of the Oklahoma City metropolitan area and has a population of 54,371 as of the 2020 census.
Midwest City was founded in 1942 as a planned community for defense workers during World War II. The city was named after its location in the middle of the United States and was designed to be a model community with wide streets, parks, and other amenities. The city has grown steadily since then and is now home to Tinker Air Force Base, one of the largest employers in the state.
The city is known for its many parks and recreational facilities, including Joe B. Barnes Regional Park which features an Olympic-sized swimming pool, tennis courts, playgrounds, picnic areas, and more. Other popular attractions include Rose State College, Midwest City Library & Museum Complex, Reed Conference Center & Hotel, and Town Center Plaza Shopping Center.
Midwest City also offers a variety of dining options ranging from fast food to fine dining restaurants. There are also several shopping centers throughout the city offering everything from clothing stores to electronics stores. The city also hosts several annual events such as the Midwest City Festival of Lights Parade and Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony each December.
