Ada, Oklahoma Description
Ada, Oklahoma is a small city located in the southeastern part of the state. It is the county seat of Pontotoc County and has a population of around 17,000 people. The city was founded in 1889 and named after Ada Reed, the daughter of an early settler.
Ada is known for its rich history and culture. The city has several historic sites including the Chickasaw Nation Capitol Building, which was built in 1902 and served as the capital of the Chickasaw Nation until 1907. Other notable sites include the Pontotoc County Courthouse, which was built in 1910 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places; and East Central University, which was founded in 1909 and is one of Oklahoma's oldest universities.
The economy of Ada is largely based on agriculture, manufacturing, healthcare, education, retail trade, and tourism. The city also has a vibrant arts scene with several galleries and museums showcasing local artworks. There are also numerous festivals throughout the year such as the annual Ada Arts Festival which celebrates local artists and musicians.
