Massillon, OH, USA is a city located in Stark County in the state of Ohio. It is situated along the Tuscarawas River and is part of the Canton-Massillon Metropolitan Statistical Area. The city has a population of 32,149 as of 2019 and covers an area of 16.2 square miles.
Massillon was founded in 1812 by Bezaleel Wells and named after Jean Baptiste Massillon, a French Catholic bishop. It was originally a farming community but soon developed into an industrial center due to its location on the Tuscarawas River and its access to railroads. The city became known for its steel production, brick manufacturing, and other industries such as glassmaking and paper production.
Today, Massillon is home to many businesses including manufacturing companies, retail stores, restaurants, banks, medical facilities, and more. The city also has several parks including Sippo Lake Park which features a lake with fishing opportunities as well as trails for hiking and biking.
