Delaware, Ohio Description
Delaware, OH is a small city located in the central part of the state of Ohio. It is situated in Delaware County and is part of the Columbus metropolitan area. The city has a population of around 37,000 people and covers an area of about 16 square miles.
The city was founded in 1808 and was named after the Delaware Indians who once lived in the area. It was originally a farming community but has since grown into a thriving suburban city with many businesses, restaurants, and shops. The downtown area features historic buildings, parks, and other attractions that make it a popular destination for visitors.
The city is home to Ohio Wesleyan University which was founded in 1842 and is one of the oldest universities in the state. The university offers a variety of degree programs as well as sports teams that compete at the NCAA Division III level.
Delaware also has several parks including Mingo Park which features a lake, walking trails, picnic areas, and playgrounds. There are also several golf courses located within the city limits as well as nearby state parks such as Alum Creek State Park which offers camping, fishing, boating, swimming, and more outdoor activities.
Delaware is known for its vibrant arts scene with numerous galleries and performance venues throughout the city. There are also many festivals held throughout the year such as the annual Delaware Arts Festival which showcases local artists from all over Ohio. The city also hosts an annual Fourth of July celebration with fireworks displays and live music performances.
