Yonkers, New York Description
Yonkers is a city located in Westchester County, New York, United States. It is the fourth most populous city in the state of New York and the most populous city in Westchester County. Yonkers borders the cities of Mount Vernon and New Rochelle to the east, White Plains to the north, and Greenburgh to the west. The Hudson River forms its southern boundary.
Yonkers has a diverse population of over 200,000 people from many different backgrounds. The city is home to a large number of immigrants from Latin America, Asia, and Europe. Yonkers is also home to a large African American population as well as a growing Hispanic population.
The city has many attractions for visitors including Untermyer Park & Gardens, which features beautiful gardens and sculptures; Hudson River Museum; Science Barge; Cross County Shopping Center; Empire City Casino; and Tibbetts Brook Park. There are also several parks located throughout the city such as Tibbetts Brook Park, Sprain Lake Park, and Yonkers Raceway & Empire City Casino.
Yonkers is served by Metro-North Railroad's Harlem Line which provides service to Grand Central Terminal in Manhattan as well as other destinations in Westchester County. The Bee-Line Bus System provides public transportation throughout Yonkers and Westchester County. The Saw Mill River Parkway runs through Yonkers providing access to other parts of Westchester County as well as Connecticut.
