Staten Island, New York Description
Staten Island is a borough of New York City located in the southwestern corner of the city. It is connected to Brooklyn and Manhattan by the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge, and to New Jersey by the Outerbridge Crossing, Goethals Bridge, and Bayonne Bridge. The island has an area of 58 square miles and a population of 476,015 as of 2019.
Staten Island is known for its diverse neighborhoods, parks, beaches, and cultural attractions. The North Shore is home to many historic sites such as Fort Wadsworth and Snug Harbor Cultural Center & Botanical Garden. The South Shore features several beaches including Midland Beach and South Beach. Staten Island also has numerous parks including Clove Lakes Park, Silver Lake Park, and Wolfe’s Pond Park.
The borough is home to several cultural attractions such as the Staten Island Zoo, Staten Island Museum, Jacques Marchais Museum of Tibetan Art, Alice Austen House Museum & Garden, Garibaldi-Meucci Museum, and Staten Island Children’s Museum. There are also several theaters such as St. George Theatre and Music Hall at Snug Harbor Cultural Center & Botanical Garden.
Staten Island has a variety of restaurants ranging from Italian to Chinese cuisine. There are also many shopping centers such as Staten Island Mall and Empire Outlets which offer a variety of stores for shoppers to explore. Additionally, there are several golf courses on the island including LaTourette Golf Course and Silver Lake Golf Course.
