Johnstown, NY is a small city located in the foothills of the Adirondack Mountains in upstate New York. It is situated along the banks of the Mohawk River and is part of Fulton County. The city has a population of 8,743 people as of 2019 and covers an area of 4.2 square miles.
Johnstown was founded in 1762 by Sir William Johnson, a British military officer who was granted land in the area by King George III. The city was named after his son, John Johnson.
