Carmel, New York Description
Carmel, NY is a small town located in Putnam County, New York. It is situated in the Hudson Valley region of the state and is about an hour north of New York City. The town has a population of around 34,000 people and covers an area of approximately 40 square miles.
The town was founded in 1795 and was originally known as "Frederickstown" after its founder, Frederick Philipse. It was later renamed Carmel after the biblical Mount Carmel. The town has a rich history and is home to many historic sites including the Philipse Manor Hall State Historic Site, which dates back to 1682.
Carmel is known for its beautiful scenery and outdoor activities. There are several parks located throughout the town including Lake Gleneida Park, which offers swimming, fishing, boating, and hiking opportunities.
