Brookhaven is a town located in Suffolk County, New York, United States. It is situated on the south shore of Long Island and is part of the New York metropolitan area. The town has a population of around 488,000 people and covers an area of around 200 square miles.
The town was founded in 1655 by English settlers and was originally known as Setauket. It was later renamed Brookhaven after the first settler, John Brook.
