Vineland, New Jersey Description
Vineland is a city in Cumberland County, New Jersey, United States. It is part of the Vineland-Millville-Bridgeton Primary Metropolitan Statistical Area for statistical purposes. As of the 2010 United States Census, the city had a total population of 60,724, making it the state's 10th largest municipality. Vineland was formed on July 1, 1952, through the merger of Landis Township and Vineland Borough, based on the results of a referendum held on February 5, 1952. The name is derived from the plans of its founder to use the land to grow grapes.
Vineland is located in South Jersey in Cumberland County and is bordered by Millville to the northwest and Buena Vista Township to the northeast. It has an area of about 65 square miles (170 km2). The city is situated on relatively flat land that ranges from sea level to 200 feet (61 m) above sea level along its eastern border with Atlantic County. The city's soils are mostly sandy loam with some clay loam and silt loam textures.
The climate in this area is characterized by hot, humid summers and generally mild to cool winters. According to the Köppen Climate Classification system, Vineland has a humid subtropical climate, abbreviated "Cfa" on climate maps.
Vineland has many attractions including parks such as Landis Park which features a lake with fishing and boating opportunities; recreational facilities such as golf courses; museums such as Wheaton Arts & Cultural Center; shopping centers; restaurants; theaters; and more. There are also several annual festivals held in Vineland including Italian Festival and Greek Festival which celebrate local culture and heritage.
