Vernon, New Jersey Description
Vernon, NJ is a small town located in the northwest corner of New Jersey. It is situated in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains and is part of Sussex County. The town has a population of just over 5,000 people and covers an area of approximately 25 square miles.
The town was founded in 1793 and was originally known as "Vernon Valley" due to its location in a valley between two mountain ranges. The town was named after George Washington's home, Mount Vernon.
Vernon is known for its natural beauty and outdoor activities. There are several parks and trails throughout the area that offer hiking, biking, fishing, camping, and other recreational activities. The Appalachian Trail passes through Vernon as well as High Point State Park which offers stunning views of the surrounding mountains.
The town also has a vibrant downtown area with many shops and restaurants to explore. There are also several historic sites such as the Old Mill Museum which houses artifacts from the early days of Vernon's history.
