North Bergen, New Jersey Description
North Bergen is a township located in the northern part of Hudson County, New Jersey. It is situated along the western shore of the Hudson River and is bordered by Union City to the south, Guttenberg to the north, and West New York to the east. The township has a population of approximately 60,000 people and covers an area of 5.3 square miles.
The town was originally settled by Dutch settlers in 1658 and was incorporated as a township in 1843. North Bergen has since grown into a vibrant community with a diverse population and culture. The town is home to many different ethnicities including Latin American, Italian, Irish, Polish, German, Indian, Chinese and Filipino immigrants.
The town offers many attractions for visitors including parks such as James J Braddock Park which features a lake with fishing opportunities as well as walking trails; shopping centers such as Bergen Town Center which offers over 200 stores; and entertainment venues such as North Bergen High School's Performing Arts Center which hosts concerts and theatrical performances throughout the year.
North Bergen also boasts excellent public transportation options with bus routes that connect it to other parts of Hudson County as well as New York City via NJ Transit buses or ferries from nearby Weehawken Port Imperial. The town also has its own light rail system called Hudson-Bergen Light Rail which connects it to other parts of Hudson County and Jersey City.
