Lacey, New Jersey Description
Lacey Township is a township located in Ocean County, New Jersey, United States. It is part of the Ocean County Shore region and is bordered by Barnegat Township to the north, Berkeley Township to the east, and Forked River to the south. The township has a population of 27,644 as of the 2010 census.
Lacey Township was incorporated in 1871 from portions of Dover Township (now known as Toms River Township). The township was named for Continental Army General John Lacey.
The township is home to several parks and recreational areas, including Forked River State Park, Cedar Creek Park, and Lacey Township High School's athletic fields. There are also several golf courses in the area.
The economy of Lacey Township is largely based on tourism and retail businesses. The township has several shopping centers and restaurants along Route 9 and Route 72. There are also many small businesses located throughout the town.
Lacey Township is served by two public school districts: Lacey Township School District and Ocean County Vocational Technical School District. The district serves students from kindergarten through twelfth grade. There are also several private schools in the area.
