Hackensack is a city located in Bergen County, New Jersey, United States. It is the county seat of Bergen County and is located just 12 miles northwest of Manhattan. The city has a population of approximately 43,000 people and covers an area of 5.2 square miles.

The city was founded in 1693 by Dutch settlers and was originally known as New Barbadoes Township. It was later renamed Hackensack in 1710 after the Hackensack River which runs through the city. The city has a rich history and was home to many Revolutionary War battles including the Battle of Fort Lee in 1776.

Today, Hackensack is a vibrant and diverse community with a variety of attractions and activities for residents and visitors alike. The downtown area features numerous restaurants, shops, galleries, museums, theaters, parks, and more. The Hackensack RiverWalk is a popular destination for walking or biking along the riverfront while taking in views of the New York City skyline. There are also several parks throughout the city including Johnson Park which features an outdoor amphitheater for concerts and performances during the summer months.

Hackensack is also home to several educational institutions including Fairleigh Dickinson University, Bergen Community College, and Hackensack University Medical Center which serves as one of the largest healthcare providers in northern New Jersey. With its convenient location near major highways such as Route 4 and Interstate 80, Hackensack provides easy access to other parts of New Jersey as well as New York City making it an ideal place to live or visit.
