Guttenberg, NJ is a small town located in Hudson County, New Jersey. It is situated on the west bank of the Hudson River and is part of the New York metropolitan area. The town has a population of 11,176 people as of 2019 and covers an area of 0.8 square miles.
Guttenberg was originally settled by Dutch settlers in 1660 and was incorporated as a township in 1859. The town is named after Johannes Gutenberg, the inventor of the printing press.
The town has a diverse population with many different ethnic backgrounds represented. There are several parks and recreational areas in Guttenberg including Lincoln Park, which offers views of Manhattan and the Hudson River, and Guttenberg Park which features a playground, basketball court, baseball field, and picnic area.
Guttenberg also has several restaurants and shops along its main street including Italian eateries, Mexican restaurants, bakeries, cafes, bars, and more. There are also several banks located in Guttenberg as well as a post office and library.
The town is served by two public schools: Guttenberg Elementary School for grades K-5 and Memorial High School for grades 6-12. The town also has several private schools including St Joseph's Catholic School for grades K-8 and St Mary's Academy for grades 9-12.
Guttenberg is easily accessible from New York City via public transportation such as buses or ferries that run from Manhattan to Weehawken or Hoboken where commuters can then take a bus to Guttenberg.
