East Orange, NJ is a vibrant city located in Essex County, New Jersey. It is situated just 8 miles west of Manhattan and is part of the New York metropolitan area. East Orange has a population of approximately 64,000 people and is known for its diverse culture and vibrant nightlife.

The city was founded in 1666 by Puritan settlers from Connecticut and was originally called Newark Mountain. In 1806, the name was changed to East Orange to distinguish it from Newark. The city has a rich history that includes being the birthplace of poet Walt Whitman and home to the first African-American mayor in New Jersey, Mayor Kenneth Gibson.

East Orange is home to many parks and recreational areas including Branch Brook Park, which is one of the oldest parks in the United States.
