Clifton, NJ is a city located in Passaic County, New Jersey. It is situated 8 miles west of Manhattan and is part of the New York metropolitan area. Clifton has a population of 84,136 people and covers an area of 11.2 square miles.
The city was founded in 1917 and was originally known as the City of Clifton. It was named after its founder, James C. Clifton, who purchased the land from the Lenni Lenape Native Americans in 1710. The city has grown significantly since then and now boasts a vibrant economy with many businesses and industries located within its borders.
Clifton is home to several parks and recreational areas including Garret Mountain Reservation, which offers hiking trails, picnic areas, and scenic views of the New York skyline. The city also features a variety of shopping centers, restaurants, and entertainment venues such as movie theaters and bowling alleys.
