Statesville, North Carolina Description
Statesville, North Carolina is a small city located in the Piedmont region of the state. It is situated in Iredell County, about 40 miles north of Charlotte and 25 miles west of Winston-Salem. The city has a population of approximately 24,000 people and covers an area of 16 square miles.
The city was founded in 1789 and named after American Revolutionary War hero General William Lee Davidson. It was incorporated as a town in 1847 and became a city in 1873. Statesville is known for its historic downtown district which features many buildings from the 19th century including the Iredell County Courthouse, built in 1891.
The economy of Statesville is largely based on manufacturing, with several major employers located within the city limits. These include companies such as Moen Incorporated, Lowe's Companies Inc., and Tyson Foods Inc. Other industries include healthcare, retail, education, and tourism.
