Shelby, North Carolina Description
Shelby, North Carolina is a small city located in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. It is situated in Cleveland County and is the county seat. The city has a population of approximately 20,000 people and covers an area of about 10 square miles.
Shelby is known for its rich history and culture. It was founded in 1841 by Colonel William Shelby, who named it after his father, Isaac Shelby. The town was originally a trading post for local farmers and merchants, but it quickly grew into a bustling center of commerce. Today, Shelby is home to many businesses, including manufacturing plants, retail stores, restaurants, and more.
The city has several parks and recreational areas for residents to enjoy. Crowders Mountain State Park offers hiking trails and camping sites while Kings Mountain National Military Park preserves the site of a Revolutionary War battle that took place nearby. Other attractions include the Earl Scruggs Center which celebrates the life and music of bluegrass legend Earl Scruggs as well as the Don Gibson Theater which hosts live music performances from local artists.
Shelby also has several educational institutions including Cleveland Community College and Gardner-Webb University. The city also boasts an active arts scene with galleries, theaters, museums, and other cultural venues throughout town. There are also plenty of festivals throughout the year such as the annual Cleveland County Fair which features rides, games, food vendors, live music performances, and more!
