Monroe, North Carolina is a small city located in Union County, about 25 miles southeast of Charlotte. It is the county seat and has a population of approximately 33,000 people. The city was founded in 1843 and named after James Monroe, the fifth President of the United States.
Monroe is known for its historic downtown area, which features many buildings from the 19th century. The downtown area also includes several restaurants, shops, and galleries. There are also several parks located throughout the city, including Lake Lee Park and Marshville Community Park.
The city is home to several educational institutions, including Wingate University and Union County Public Schools. There are also several private schools in the area as well as a community college.
