Jacksonville, North Carolina is a small city located in Onslow County, North Carolina. It is the county seat of Onslow County and is situated on the New River. Jacksonville is home to Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune and Marine Corps Air Station New River. The city has a population of around 70,000 people and covers an area of about 40 square miles.
The city has a humid subtropical climate with hot summers and mild winters. The average temperature in the summer months ranges from 75-90 degrees Fahrenheit while in the winter months it ranges from 45-60 degrees Fahrenheit.
Jacksonville is known for its military presence as well as its historical sites such as the Freedom Fountain, which commemorates those who served in World War II, and the Onslow County Courthouse, which was built in 1887. The city also has several parks including White Oak Park, which features a lake and walking trails, and Bear Creek Park, which offers camping sites and picnic areas.
The city also has several museums such as the Onslow County Museum of History and Culture, which showcases artifacts from the area’s past; the Jacksonville Museum of Military History; and the North Carolina Maritime Museum at Southport. There are also several art galleries located throughout Jacksonville that feature local artists’ work.
Jacksonville is home to many restaurants that offer a variety of cuisines including American, Italian, Mexican, Chinese, Japanese, Thai, Indian and more. There are also several shopping centers located throughout the city that offer everything from clothing stores to electronics stores to specialty shops.
