Edgecombe County is a county located in the U.S. state of North Carolina. It is part of the Rocky Mount, NC Metropolitan Statistical Area. The county seat is Tarboro, which is also the largest city in Edgecombe County.

Edgecombe County has a total area of 545 square miles and a population of 56,552 people as of 2019. The county is home to several small towns and communities, including Pinetops, Princeville, Sharpsburg, Speed, and Whitakers.

The county is known for its rich history and culture. It was first settled by English colonists in 1732 and was named after Richard Edgecombe, an English politician who served as Secretary of State for the Southern Department from 1724 to 1730. Edgecombe County was one of the original eight counties formed in North Carolina in 1741.
