Asheboro, North Carolina is a small city located in the heart of Randolph County. It is the county seat and the largest city in Randolph County. Asheboro is situated in the Uwharrie Mountains region of North Carolina and is home to a population of approximately 25,000 people.
The city was founded in 1796 and has a rich history that includes being the birthplace of General William Lee Davidson, who fought in the Revolutionary War. Asheboro has also been home to many notable figures such as former President James K. Polk and NASCAR driver Junior Johnson.
Asheboro is known for its vibrant downtown area which features a variety of shops, restaurants, and entertainment venues. The downtown area also hosts several festivals throughout the year including the annual North Carolina State Fair which draws thousands of visitors each year.
The city also boasts several parks and recreational areas including Lake Reese Park, which offers fishing, boating, swimming, camping, and other outdoor activities. Other attractions include the North Carolina Zoo which houses over 500 species of animals from around the world as well as an aquarium and aviary.
Asheboro is served by two major highways: US 64 and US 220 which provide easy access to nearby cities such as Greensboro, Winston-Salem, Charlotte, Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU), and other destinations throughout North Carolina. The city also has its own airport (KHBI) which offers flights to various destinations throughout the United States.
