Albemarle, North Carolina Description
Albemarle, North Carolina is a small city located in Stanly County, about 50 miles east of Charlotte. It is the county seat and has a population of around 15,000 people. The city was founded in 1747 and named after George Monck, 1st Duke of Albemarle.
The city is known for its historic downtown area which features many old buildings and homes from the 19th century. There are also several parks and recreational areas including Morrow Mountain State Park, Badin Lake, and Morrow Mountain State Natural Area.
The economy of Albemarle is largely based on agriculture with tobacco being the main crop grown in the area. Other industries include textiles, furniture manufacturing, and food processing.
