Butte, Montana is a city located in the southwestern part of the state. It is the fifth largest city in Montana and is known as the “Richest Hill on Earth” due to its rich mining history. Butte was founded in 1864 as a mining camp and quickly grew into a bustling city with a population of over 30,000 by 1910. The city was home to many immigrants from Ireland, Italy, and other European countries who came to work in the mines.
Butte has a unique culture that blends its mining heritage with modern amenities. The downtown area is full of historic buildings, including the iconic Copper King Mansion which was built by one of Butte’s most famous citizens, William Andrews Clark.
