Jackson, Mississippi is the capital and most populous city of the state of Mississippi. Located in the central region of the state, Jackson is situated along the Pearl River and is home to a population of over 173,000 people.
The city was founded in 1821 and named after Andrew Jackson, who was then President of the United States. It has since grown to become an important cultural and economic hub for the region. The city is home to several universities, including Jackson State University, Millsaps College, and Belhaven University.
