Canton, Mississippi Description
Canton, Mississippi is a small city located in Madison County, about 25 miles north of Jackson. It is the county seat and has a population of 13,189 as of the 2010 census. The city was founded in 1834 and named after Canton, China.
The city is known for its historic downtown area which features many old buildings and homes from the 19th century. The downtown area also features several restaurants, shops, and galleries. The city also has several parks including the Canton Multipurpose Center which offers a variety of recreational activities such as basketball courts, tennis courts, and a swimming pool.
Canton is home to several annual events such as the Canton Flea Market which takes place every April and October. The city also hosts the annual Canton Trade Days Festival which features live music, food vendors, arts & crafts booths, and more.
The city is served by two school districts: Madison County School District and Canton Public School District. There are several private schools in the area as well. The University of Mississippi Medical Center is located just outside of town in Jackson.
Canton is a great place to live with its small-town charm and close proximity to larger cities like Jackson and Memphis. It offers plenty of activities for residents to enjoy while still maintaining its historic roots.
