Moorhead, Minnesota is a city located in Clay County, on the western border of Minnesota. It is part of the Fargo-Moorhead metropolitan area and is situated along the Red River of the North. The city has a population of approximately 38,000 people and is home to Minnesota State University Moorhead (MSUM).
The city was founded in 1871 by William G. Moorhead, who named it after his hometown in Pennsylvania. It was incorporated as a village in 1881 and as a city in 1903. The city has grown steadily since then, with its population increasing by over 10% between 2000 and 2010.
Moorhead is known for its vibrant downtown area, which features numerous shops, restaurants, and entertainment venues. The historic downtown district includes several buildings listed on the National Register of Historic Places, including the Moorhead City Hall and Fire Station No. 1. The city also boasts several parks and recreational areas, including Bluestem Prairie Park and Gooseberry Mound Park.
The economy of Moorhead is largely based on education, healthcare, retail trade, manufacturing, and services industries.
