Edina, Minnesota is a vibrant and affluent suburb of Minneapolis located in Hennepin County. It is home to over 50,000 residents and is known for its excellent schools, parks, and recreational activities.
The city of Edina was founded in 1888 by a group of settlers from Scotland who named it after Edinburgh, Scotland. It has since grown into a thriving community with a variety of businesses, restaurants, and shopping centers. The city is also home to the Southdale Center, the first enclosed shopping mall in the United States.
Edina is known for its excellent school system which includes two high schools (Edina High School and South View High School), four middle schools (Valley View Middle School, Creek Valley Middle School, South View Middle School, and Normandale Hills Middle School), and nine elementary schools (Concord Elementary School, Cornelia Elementary School, Countryside Elementary School, Creek Valley Elementary School, Highlands Elementary School, Normandale Hills Elementary School, Valley View Elementary School). The city also has several private schools including St. Patrick's Catholic Church & Academy and St. John's Lutheran Church & Academy.
The city of Edina offers many recreational activities for its residents including golf courses at Braemar Golf Course and Edina Country Club as well as numerous parks such as Centennial Lakes Park which features an artificial lake with paddleboats available for rent. Other attractions include the Edina Aquatic Center which offers swimming lessons and water slides as well as the Edina Art Center which provides art classes for all ages.
Edina is also home to many restaurants ranging from casual dining to fine dining establishments such as Cafe Lurcat and Figlio Wood Fired Pizza. Shopping centers such as Southdale Center offer a variety of stores from department stores to specialty shops while 50th & France offers boutique shops with unique items not found anywhere else in the Twin Cities area.
Overall Edina is an ideal place to live with its excellent school system, recreational activities, restaurants and shopping centers making it one of the most desirable suburbs in Minnesota.
