Sturgis, Michigan Description
Sturgis, Michigan is a small city located in the southwestern corner of the state. It is situated in St. Joseph County and is part of the Three Rivers Metropolitan Area. The city has a population of around 10,000 people and covers an area of about 5 square miles.
The city was founded in 1829 by Colonel Samuel D. Sturgis, who named it after himself. It was incorporated as a village in 1871 and as a city in 1887. The city is known for its rich history and its many attractions, including the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally which takes place every August.
The downtown area of Sturgis is home to many historic buildings, including the old City Hall which dates back to 1887 and the First Presbyterian Church which was built in 1868. There are also several museums such as the Sturgis Historical Museum and the Sturgis Motorcycle Museum which showcase the history of the area and its famous motorcycle rally.
The city also offers plenty of outdoor activities such as fishing, camping, hiking, biking, golfing, and more. There are several parks located throughout the city including Baw Beese Lake Park which features a beach area for swimming and boating activities. The nearby town of White Pigeon also offers plenty of outdoor activities such as kayaking on White Pigeon River or visiting one of their many wineries or breweries.
Sturgis is also home to several annual events such as the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally which attracts thousands of visitors each year from all over the world; The Summer Festival which includes live music performances; The Fall Festival with carnival rides; The Christmas Parade; And much more!
