Spring Lake, Michigan Description
Spring Lake, Michigan is a small village located in Ottawa County, just north of Grand Haven. It is situated on the eastern shore of Spring Lake, a large lake that is part of the Grand River watershed. The village has a population of approximately 2,000 people and covers an area of 1.3 square miles.
The village was founded in 1837 by settlers from New York and Pennsylvania who were attracted to the area by its abundant natural resources. The village was named after the nearby lake, which was named for its abundance of springs that feed into it.
The village is home to several parks and recreational areas, including Spring Lake Park, which features a beach and picnic area as well as a playground and walking trails. There are also several public boat launches on the lake for fishing or pleasure boating.
The downtown area features many historic buildings, including the Old School House Museum and the Spring Lake Historical Society Museum. There are also several restaurants and shops in town, as well as a library and post office.
Spring Lake is known for its annual Fourth of July celebration, which includes fireworks over the lake and other festivities throughout town. The village also hosts an annual art fair each summer featuring local artists from around Michigan.
