Oakland, Michigan is a small city located in the northern part of the state, about 25 miles north of Detroit. It is situated on the banks of the Clinton River and is home to approximately 15,000 people.

The city has a rich history that dates back to 1819 when it was founded by settlers from New York. The city was originally named "Clintonville" after the river that runs through it. In 1827, the name was changed to Oakland in honor of General Joseph Warren who fought in the Battle of Bunker Hill during the Revolutionary War.

Oakland is known for its quaint downtown area which features many unique shops and restaurants. There are also several parks and recreational areas throughout the city including a public beach on Lake Orion and a nature preserve at Bald Mountain State Recreation Area.
