New Buffalo, Michigan Description
New Buffalo, Michigan is a small city located in Berrien County, on the southwestern shore of Lake Michigan. It is situated about 60 miles east of Chicago and just over 20 miles from the Indiana border. The city has a population of around 1,800 people and is known for its beautiful beaches, quaint downtown area, and vibrant art scene.
The city was founded in 1834 by settlers from New York State who were looking for a place to settle along the lake. The town quickly grew as it became an important port for shipping goods between Chicago and Detroit. In the late 1800s, New Buffalo became a popular summer destination for wealthy Chicagoans who built large homes along the lakefront. Today, many of these homes have been restored and are now used as vacation rentals or bed-and-breakfasts.
The downtown area of New Buffalo is filled with unique shops and restaurants that offer everything from antiques to gourmet food. There are also several art galleries that feature local artists’ work.
