Coloma, Michigan Description
Coloma is a small city located in the southwestern corner of Michigan, United States. It is situated on the banks of the Paw Paw River and is part of Berrien County. The population was 1,919 at the 2010 census.
Coloma was founded in 1837 by settlers from New York and Pennsylvania who were attracted to the area by its rich soil and abundant natural resources. The city was named after Coloma, California, where gold was discovered in 1848.
The city has a rich history that dates back to its founding. It was an important stop on the Underground Railroad during the Civil War and served as a major hub for shipping goods along Lake Michigan. Today, Coloma is home to several historic sites including the Coloma Historic District, which includes many 19th century buildings and homes.
