Laurel, Maryland is a city located in Prince George's County, Maryland, United States. It is situated between Washington, D.C. and Baltimore, making it an ideal location for commuters. The city has a population of 25,115 as of the 2010 census and is part of the Washington metropolitan area.
The city was founded in 1870 by the Laurel Land Company and was named after the laurel trees that grew in abundance in the area. It has since grown to become a vibrant community with a diverse population and plenty of amenities for its residents.
The downtown area of Laurel is home to many shops, restaurants, and businesses. There are also several parks located throughout the city including Granville Gude Park which features a lake with fishing opportunities as well as trails for walking and biking. The city also has several historic sites such as the Montpelier Mansion which was built in 1783 and is now open to visitors for tours and events.
Laurel is served by two major highways: Interstate 95 and Route 1 which provide easy access to both Washington D.C. and Baltimore. The MARC train also stops at Laurel Station providing convenient public transportation options for commuters traveling into either city.
