Hagerstown, Maryland Description

Hagerstown, Maryland is a city located in the western part of the state, about an hour and a half from Washington D.C. It is the county seat of Washington County and has a population of around 40,000 people. The city was founded in 1762 by Jonathan Hager and has since grown to become a vibrant community with plenty to offer its residents and visitors alike.

The downtown area of Hagerstown is full of historic buildings, many of which are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The city also boasts several museums, including the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts and the Hagerstown Railroad Museum. There are also plenty of parks and recreational areas for outdoor activities such as hiking, biking, fishing, and camping.

Hagerstown is home to several colleges and universities including Hood College, University System of Maryland at Hagerstown, and Wilson College. The city also has a thriving arts scene with numerous galleries, theaters, music venues, and festivals throughout the year.

The economy in Hagerstown is largely based on manufacturing with companies such as Volvo Trucks North America having their headquarters here. Other major employers include Meritus Health Care System and Mack Trucks Incorporated. The city also has a strong retail sector with numerous shopping centers throughout town.
