Mashpee, Massachusetts Description

Mashpee, MA is a town located on Cape Cod in the southeastern corner of Massachusetts. It is bordered by Barnstable to the north, Falmouth to the east, and Sandwich to the south. The town has a population of about 14,000 people and covers an area of 28 square miles.

The town was first settled in 1658 by English colonists and was incorporated in 1870. It is home to several historic sites including the Mashpee Wampanoag Indian Reservation, which is the only federally recognized Indian reservation in Massachusetts. The reservation is home to the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe, who are descendants of the original inhabitants of Cape Cod.

Mashpee is known for its beautiful beaches and coastal scenery. There are several public beaches located along Nantucket Sound including South Cape Beach State Park and Popponesset Beach. The town also has several freshwater ponds such as Wakeby Pond and Long Pond which offer great fishing opportunities.

The town has a vibrant downtown area with many shops, restaurants, galleries, and other attractions. There are also several parks located throughout Mashpee including Mashpee Commons which features a variety of stores and restaurants as well as an outdoor amphitheater for concerts and events.

Mashpee also offers plenty of recreational activities such as golfing at one of its two courses or kayaking on one of its many rivers or ponds. The town also hosts several annual events such as the Mashpee Wampanoag Powwow in August or the Mashpee Summer Festival in June which features live music, food vendors, carnival rides, and more!
