Sulphur, Louisiana is a city located in Calcasieu Parish, Louisiana. It is the largest city in the parish and has a population of approximately 21,000 people. The city is situated on the banks of the Calcasieu River and is home to many industries including oil and gas production, chemical manufacturing, and shipping.
The city was founded in 1817 by settlers from Canada who were looking for a place to settle down. The name Sulphur comes from the sulfur deposits that were found in the area at the time. The city has grown over the years and now boasts a variety of attractions such as museums, parks, golf courses, shopping centers, restaurants, and more.
The climate in Sulphur is humid subtropical with hot summers and mild winters. The average temperature ranges from lows of around 40 degrees Fahrenheit in winter to highs of around 90 degrees Fahrenheit in summer. Rainfall averages around 50 inches per year with most of it occurring during spring and summer months.
Sulphur is home to several universities including McNeese State University and Sowela Technical Community College. It also has an airport which serves as a hub for regional air travel. There are several hospitals located within the city limits as well as numerous churches representing various denominations.
