Marrero, Louisiana Description

Marrero is a census-designated place (CDP) located in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana, United States. It is part of the New Orleans–Metairie–Kenner Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 33,141 at the 2010 census. Marrero is located on the West Bank of the Mississippi River, just south of Harvey and Avondale.

Marrero is a vibrant community with a rich history and culture. The area was originally inhabited by Native Americans who lived along the banks of the Mississippi River. In 1763, Spanish settlers arrived in the area and established a small settlement known as La Balize. The settlement was named after a French term for “the edge” or “the border” because it was located near the border between French and Spanish territories.

The area remained largely rural until the early 20th century when it began to experience rapid growth due to its proximity to New Orleans and its access to transportation via railroads and highways. Today, Marrero is home to many businesses, including retail stores, restaurants, medical facilities, schools, churches, and more. It also has several parks and recreational areas for residents to enjoy.

Marrero has a humid subtropical climate with hot summers and mild winters. The average temperature in July is around 90°F (32°C) while in January it drops down to around 50°F (10°C). Rainfall averages around 60 inches (152 cm) per year with most of it occurring during summer months from May through September.

Marrero offers its residents plenty of opportunities for entertainment and recreation including golf courses, parks, museums, theaters, shopping centers, restaurants, bars and more. It also has several annual festivals such as Mardi Gras parades and Jazz Festivals that attract visitors from all over the world each year.
