Hammond, Louisiana is a city located in Tangipahoa Parish, Louisiana. It is the largest city in the parish and is located about 45 miles northeast of New Orleans. The population of Hammond was 20,019 as of the 2010 census.

The city was founded in 1869 by Peter Hammond and named after him. It has grown to become a major center for commerce and industry in the region. The city is home to Southeastern Louisiana University, which has an enrollment of over 15,000 students.

The climate in Hammond is humid subtropical with hot summers and mild winters. The average high temperature during the summer months is around 90 degrees Fahrenheit (32 Celsius) while the average low temperature during winter months is around 40 degrees Fahrenheit (4 Celsius). Rainfall averages around 50 inches per year with most of it occurring during the spring and summer months.

The economy of Hammond is largely based on education, healthcare, manufacturing, retail trade, and tourism. Major employers include Southeastern Louisiana University, North Oaks Medical Center, Stine Lumber Company, Walmart Supercenter, and Hammond Square Mall.

Hammond has a variety of attractions for visitors including Zemurray Park which features a walking trail along Bayou Tangipahoa; Historic Downtown Hammond which offers shopping and dining; and Ponchatoula Antique Village which features over 100 antique shops. There are also several museums such as the Tangipahoa African American Heritage Museum and the Northshore Railroad Museum.

Hammond also hosts several annual events such as the Strawberry Festival in April; Christmas on the River in December; and Taste of Tangipahoa in May which features local cuisine from area restaurants.

Overall, Hammond is a vibrant city with plenty to offer both residents and visitors alike!
