Gretna is a city located in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana, United States. It is situated on the west bank of the Mississippi River, just across from New Orleans. Gretna is the second-largest city in Jefferson Parish and has a population of approximately 17,736 people.

Gretna was founded in 1836 by German immigrants who named it after their hometown of Gretna Green, Scotland. The city has a rich history and culture that can be seen in its architecture and landmarks. The historic downtown area features many buildings from the 19th century, including the old City Hall and several churches.
