Jessamine County, Kentucky is a small rural county located in the heart of the Bluegrass region of the state. It is bordered by Fayette, Madison, Garrard, and Mercer counties. The county seat is Nicholasville, which is also the largest city in the county. The population of Jessamine County was estimated to be 48,586 in 2019.

The area was first settled in 1779 by William Ellis and his family. The county was officially established in 1799 and named after Jessamine Douglass, daughter of Revolutionary War hero General James Wilkinson.

The landscape of Jessamine County is mostly rolling hills with some flat areas along the Kentucky River. Agriculture has been an important part of the economy since its founding and continues to be today with corn, soybeans, hay, tobacco, and horses being some of the main crops grown here. There are also several wineries located throughout the county that produce award-winning wines from locally grown grapes.

The climate in Jessamine County is mild with hot summers and cold winters. Average temperatures range from a low of 28°F in January to a high of 87°F in July. Rainfall averages around 45 inches per year with snowfall averaging around 10 inches per year.

Jessamine County offers many recreational activities for residents and visitors alike including camping at Camp Nelson National Monument or fishing at Herrington Lake State Park. There are also several golf courses located throughout the county as well as numerous hiking trails for outdoor enthusiasts to explore. Additionally, there are several historical sites such as Camp Nelson Civil War Heritage Park that offer educational opportunities for those interested in learning more about local history.
