Bardstown, Kentucky Description
Bardstown, Kentucky is a small city located in the heart of the Bluegrass Region of Kentucky. It is situated in Nelson County and is known as the “Bourbon Capital of the World” due to its many bourbon distilleries. The city has a population of around 12,000 people and is home to several historic sites, including My Old Kentucky Home State Park, which was once the home of Stephen Foster, composer of “My Old Kentucky Home”.
The downtown area of Bardstown is full of historic buildings and homes that date back to the early 1800s. Many of these buildings are listed on the National Register of Historic Places and are open for tours. The downtown area also features several restaurants, shops, galleries, and other attractions.
The city also hosts several festivals throughout the year such as the Kentucky Bourbon Festival in September and the Civil War Days in October. There are also many outdoor activities available such as hiking trails at My Old Kentucky Home State Park or fishing at nearby Nolin Lake.
