Stilwell, Kansas Description
Stilwell, Kansas is a small town located in Johnson County, just south of the Kansas City metropolitan area. The population is approximately 1,500 people and the town has a rural feel with rolling hills and open fields. The town was founded in 1857 and named after William Stilwell, an early settler.
The town is home to several businesses including a grocery store, hardware store, bank, post office, and several restaurants. There are also several churches in the area including Stilwell United Methodist Church and Stilwell Baptist Church.
The town has a few parks including Stilwell Park which features a playground and picnic area as well as walking trails. There is also an outdoor swimming pool that is open during the summer months.
Stilwell is served by two school districts: Blue Valley School District and De Soto School District. Both districts offer elementary through high school education for students living in the area.
The town has a rich history that includes being part of the Underground Railroad during the Civil War era as well as being home to many Native American tribes prior to European settlement. Today, Stilwell celebrates its history with an annual festival called “Stilwell Days” which includes live music, food vendors, carnival rides, and more!
