Basehor, Kansas Description
Basehor, KS is a small city located in Leavenworth County, Kansas. It is situated just 20 miles west of Kansas City and is part of the Kansas City metropolitan area. The population of Basehor was 4,613 at the 2010 census.
Basehor was founded in 1854 by a group of settlers from Ohio and Pennsylvania. The town was named after Chief Basehor, a Potawatomi Indian chief who lived in the area. The town grew slowly until the 1950s when it began to experience rapid growth due to its proximity to Kansas City.
Today, Basehor is a thriving community with a variety of businesses and amenities. The city has several parks and recreational areas including Basehor Community Park, which features a playground, picnic areas, walking trails, and sports fields. There are also several golf courses in the area as well as shopping centers and restaurants.
Basehor is served by the Basehor-Linwood School District which includes four elementary schools, one middle school, one high school, and one alternative school. The city also has several churches representing various denominations including Baptist, Methodist, Lutheran, Catholic and non-denominational Christian churches.
